Reminiscing the old batavia days of Jakarta, located in Jakarta Old Town you can come across Toko Merah or Indonesian “Red Shop” which is known as one of the oldest building in Jakarta, on the west side of the main canal Kali Besar. This building was named as Toko Merah due to the red color of the building merah means red in Indonesian.

Every dutch colonial landmark has it’s own uniqueness just like Toko Merah too. This historic old building before it Red Store supposedly according to it’s history, had already experienced some several ownerships. This elegant building during 1743-1755 has also been recorded as a campus and dormitory of Academie de Marine (naval academy VOC), which later in the year 1813- 1851 the ownership was changed to Oey Liauw Kong a Tiong Hoa citizen in Jakarta at that point of time, which then functioned as a house and a store at the same time. It was then known as the Red Shop, an old building which has an intense history, a lot of rooms, and hall, both on the ground floor, second floor and third floor are still preserved by PT. Dharma Niaga.
